Q? I had a litter but mom and dad aren’t registered yet, can I register them at the same time as the litter?
A.Yes you can and when it asks for the sire and dam’s ICCF registration numbers, simply type “Pending”.
Q? I just got my puppy and have a Dog Registration Application from the breeder, how do I register?
A.First, you need to decide if you would like to register online or mail it in. We suggest completing it online since we will begin processing it quicker and you don’t need to be concerned that the USPS loses it.
Secondly, if you decide to complete the application online, you would visit our Applications page and look for Dog Registration to begin the process. If you decide to mail it in, be sure to fill it out completely and include a check or money order for the application fee.
Q? Why should I register my Cane Corso?
A. It is very important to at least get your new Corso registered under your name, until you do, the ownership of your dog will be under the breeder’s name. Another reason to register your Corso is for verification that your dog is in fact a pure bred Cane Corso. And yet another advantage is to have your dog’s specific details such as DOB, lineage, breeder, etc. You might want to consider ordering a pedigree with your dog, just for curiosity reasons, the ICCF is the oldest and most complete stud book in the world for the Cane Corso. We are the only registry that shows all major titles and accomplishments from all recognized organizations.
Q? I have a Cane Corso but only have AKC or UKC paperwork, can I still register with ICCF?
A. You can register your AKC or UKC Corso with the ICCF by using the Dual Registration Application on our Applications page. You will need a copy of your registration certificate and a 3 generation pedigree.
Q? Why register with the ICCF if I already have AKC registration?
A. Most breeders offer both ICCF and AKC paperwork because the AKC is limited on the titles and information on your pedigree. They show AKC titles however there are many titles outside of AKC. We are an international registry so we show AKC titles but we also show, ARBA, IABCA, UKC, SACC, FCI, etc, including working titles. In other words you may have 1-2 champions in your dogs lineage on AKC paperwork only to get a pedigree from the ICCF and see 15-20. Your breeder would be missing this information and it can be helpful when deciding what lines to breed, both in terms of conformation and working ability.
Q? I am importing a Cane Corso, can this dog be registered?
A. Yes, as long as you have the FCI export pedigree from the seller. Be sure that the document has your name listed as owner or you will need a “Bill of Sale” from the owner listed showing the transfer to yourself.
Q? How do I fill out the “blue slip” (Dog Registration Application) my breeder gave me?
A. We have designed a page just for you! Please visit this page for information on how to complete your Dog Registration Application.
Q? I just had a litter of puppies, how do I register the litter and get the applications for the new owners?
A. First, be sure that both the sire (dad) and dam (mom) are ICCF registered, if not, you will need to register them. If they already are registered the process is quite simple. Visit our Applications page and complete the Litter Application. You will need the sire and dam’s ICCF registration numbers as well as the DOB of the litter and how may males and females were born.
Q? How does ICCF verify purebred Cane Corsos?
🧬 ICCF Purebred Verification Process
• Parent Registration Requirement
To register a Cane Corso with the ICCF, both parents must be ICCF-registered purebreds of the same breed. This foundational requirement ensures that the dog descends from documented Cane Corso lineage.
• Pedigree Documentation
Breeders must submit detailed information about the sire and dam, including their ICCF registration numbers. The ICCF uses this to trace lineage and confirm that the puppy comes from registered purebred stock.
• Litter Registration
Breeders register each litter with the ICCF, providing birth dates, sex, and breed of each puppy. This links the puppies to their registered parents and maintains the integrity of the breed record.
• Optional DNA Testing
While not required for all dogs, ICCF may accept DNA profiling—especially in cases of disputed parentage or when verifying imported dogs. DNA testing can confirm parentage but does not determine breed purity on its own.
• Documentation Review and Compliance
ICCF reviews submitted pedigrees and may request supporting documentation, especially for imported dogs or those with foreign lineage. This helps maintain the credibility of the registry.
• Certified Pedigrees
Owners can request a Certified Pedigree from ICCF, which shows the dog’s lineage going back several generations. This document is often used to verify purebred status for breeding, showing, or dual registration with other organizations.
